We had a lively and memorable spring week at Ring Factory!
Despite the rainy weather keeping our Foxes indoors, the timing was ideal for our 3rd and 4th graders to participate in the MCAP assessments—and they gave it their all!
Two highlights brightened the week: On Monday, students and staff embraced the Aloha Spirit by dressing as if they lived in Hawaii, bringing tropical vibes to the building. Then on Thursday, we turned up the fun for Crazy Socks Day—and our 1st grade students and teachers absolutely stole the show!
We were also thrilled to celebrate some outstanding student achievements this week. On Wednesday, select RFES students were honored at Towson University for their victories in the fall Stock Market Game.
-
Our 4th grade team took home the regional win—congratulations to Landon A., Cole I., Alannah K., and Kamsi O.
-
Our 5th grade team earned state-level recognition and even presented a speech about their portfolio—well done Caleb B., Laylon C., Asher M., and Matthew M.!
To close the week, our hallways and library transformed into an art gallery for our Annual Art Show. Every student, from kindergarten through 5th grade, contributed artwork—and the results are stunning. When visiting, please enjoy the lifelike donuts and cakes with your eyes only—they're made entirely of art! Thank you to all the families who came out to support our young artists.

Dear Ring Factory Community,
What a Week at Ring Factory!
We’ve had beautiful weather and even more beautiful learning this week at school! Our third graders had an exciting hands-on science lesson where they used a saltwater and detergent solution to extract DNA from strawberries, then isolated it using rubbing alcohol. They were fascinated to see science in action! In addition, the same students are currently nurturing caterpillars in an experiment aimed at producing butterflies—and we’re thrilled to share that two stunning butterflies have already hatched! Our budding scientists are fully immersed in life sciences.

A heartfelt thank you to the Weeks family and Mrs. Martin for cleaning and mulching our front flower bed—it looks fantastic!
Also, many thanks to PTA Hospitality (Mrs. Stainbrook) for treating our staff to a delicious walking taco bar. We truly appreciate the thoughtful gesture!

The week kicked off with students and staff capturing their spring pictures. Everyone looked sharp and wore bright smiles, making for memorable photos.
5th Grade Musical Collaboration
On Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, our 5th-grade chorus, orchestra, and band students had the exciting opportunity to perform at Patterson Mill Middle High School alongside middle and high school musicians. They participated in rehearsal workshops led by the Patterson Mill directors and enjoyed performances from the older ensembles. It's wonderful to see music fostering connections across our school communities!
Spring Bus Evacuation Drill
Thursday morning featured our spring bus evacuation drill. Despite the chilly weather, students followed instructions diligently and even found the experience enjoyable. One kindergartener enthusiastically asked if we could have another drill later this year! We apologize for any disruption to the morning drop-off routine and appreciate your understanding.
Autism Awareness Month
April is Autism Awareness Month, a time to celebrate the unique strengths and talents of individuals with autism while promoting understanding and inclusion. Throughout the month, we will raise awareness by hosting read-aloud sessions in each classroom, featuring books that highlight acceptance, kindness, and the diverse experiences of individuals on the autism spectrum. These stories aim to spark meaningful conversations and encourage students to embrace differences with empathy and respect. Together, we can create a more inclusive school community where everyone feels valued and supported!

Dear Ring Factory Community,
Happy Spring!
We’ve been enjoying beautiful weather this week, and our students have made the most of it with plenty of outdoor recess!
In celebration of Ag Literacy Week, Harford County farmers, along with dedicated volunteers, visited our Kindergarten, first, and second-grade classrooms to read with our students. The children not only enjoyed the stories but also received some special goodies from the readers. We were honored to welcome Harford County Executive Bob Cassilly, Councilman Pat Vincenti, and Councilman Tony G., who generously volunteered their time to participate.
With the changing seasons, we’ve noticed an increase in student absences. If your child is ill, please notify the school and provide a doctor’s note when applicable. Attendance is crucial for student success—both excused and unexcused absences can negatively impact learning and academic performance.
Did you know? A student who accumulates 18 or more absences in a school year—regardless of the reason—is considered chronically absent. Chronic absenteeism can lead to retention in the current grade level. We strongly encourage families to make daily school attendance a priority!
Our Lost & Found is overflowing! If your child is missing an item, please check the collection in the school lobby when visiting the building. Any unclaimed items will be donated to charity before the Easter break.

Morning Drop-off Safety
For the safety of all, we urge parents to adhere to the established traffic patterns and speed limits during morning drop-off. Attempting to save a minute can lead to delays or, more critically, accidents. Thank you for keeping our drop-off process orderly and safe.

Good evening, Ring Factory Community,
Happy Friday!
We have had a wonderful week at the school. The warm weather allowed our students to enjoy outdoor recess, bringing smiles all around.
A heartfelt thank you to our 3rd-grade parents who attended the "Learn With Me" event yesterday. It was delightful to see you engaging in math activities alongside your children.
Today marks the conclusion of our Read-A-Thon challenge, and I am thrilled to announce that our Foxes read for an astounding 160,000 minutes, surpassing our goal of 100,000 minutes! What a fantastic group of readers! Please congratulate your child(ren) for their dedication. Additionally, we have raised $16,000—thank you, parents, for your incredible generosity. As a reward, students have earned the opportunity to slime their principal. They can hardly wait for next Friday to enjoy this fun event.
Next week, we are excited to welcome staff from the U.S. Army Combat Capabilities Development Command (DEVCOM) to our school. They will conduct STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) activities with students in Grades 1-5. Each grade will engage in mission-specific challenges designed to foster creativity and problem-solving skills. The program will run from Monday through Thursday.
As we step into March, it's important to note that this month brings standardized testing. Please refer to your child's class weekly bulletin for updates. Good Evening Ring Factory Community,
I hope this message finds you well. We had an eventful week at Ring Factory, marked by notable milestones and vibrant activities.
Weather Update: This week brought record-low temperatures, limiting our ability to hold outdoor recess. We understand the importance of outdoor play for our students and are hopeful for warmer weather in the coming days to allow them to expend their energy outdoors.
Celebrating Milestones: Yesterday marked the 100th day of our school year, a significant achievement for our students. Our Kindergarten classes celebrated enthusiastically, with students adorning themselves as centenarians, complete with gray hair, canes, and walkers—a delightful sight resembling a gathering of grandpas and grandmas. Additionally, our fifth-grade students commemorated their 1,000th day of schooling, reflecting on their educational journey thus far.
Character Day Festivities: Today, our halls were filled with color and creativity during "Dress Like a Character" day. Both students and staff showcased their favorite literary and fictional characters, bringing stories to life. Representations included classics such as "Cat in the Hat," "The Lorax," "The Bad Seed," "Clifford," "The Grinch," "Click, Clack, Moo," "Harry Potter," and even "Where's Waldo."
Read-A-Thon Achievement: We are thrilled to announce that our Read-A-Thon challenge has reached an impressive milestone. With a week remaining until the challenge concludes on Friday, February 28, 2025, our dedicated students have collectively logged over 100,000 minutes of reading. This accomplishment reflects their commitment and enthusiasm for reading. Classrooms are engaging in friendly competition to maximize reading minutes, fostering a culture of literacy and learning. As a reward for surpassing our reading goal, students have earned the exciting opportunity to "slime" the principal—a prospect that has generated much anticipation and daily chants of "Yes, slime! Yes, slime!" as students depart for the day.
All students, families, school and community members- Please help us spread our overwhelming reading success by completing this survey. We are so proud of our students for reaching over 100,000 minutes. The Read-A-Thon continues until February 28, 2025. How high will we reach?
https://forms.office.com/r/PauUz6mXHn
PTA Leadership Opportunities: Our Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) is actively seeking parents interested in leadership roles for the 2025-2026 school year, with elections scheduled for May. This is a valuable opportunity to influence the programs and support we provide to our students. Whether you are new to the PTA or have prior experience, your involvement is welcomed and appreciated. Currently, the position of PTA President is open. The selected individual will collaborate with a dedicated and experienced board. If you are interested in making a meaningful impact within our school community, please reach out to the PTA at [email protected].
Upcoming Schedule Reminder: Please be reminded that Friday, February 28, is an early dismissal day. Students will be released at 12:30 PM. We kindly ask parents and guardians to make the necessary arrangements for this adjusted schedule.
Wishing you all a wonderful weekend ahead.
Warm regards,
Principal Awono

Good evening, Ring Factory Community
Despite a shortened week due to weather, we observed remarkable learning across various grades. In Grade 2, students read with expressive intonation. Grade 3 students articulated their opinions and supporting evidence before completing their writing assignments. In Grade 5 science, students conducted experiments to determine if the weight and volume of water change upon freezing.
Schoolwide, our Read-A-Thon fundraiser and challenge are in full swing. Students have collectively read over 67,000 minutes! Upon reaching 100,000 minutes, they will have the opportunity to cover their principal in slime during an assembly—a prospect generating much excitement! However, 120 students have yet to activate their accounts. If you haven't done so, please activate your student's Read-A-Thon account promptly. The process is straightforward and should take less than five minutes.
For assistance, watch this brief video on signing up your reader: https://youtu.be/12tmuXH8zCg
This morning, we concluded the week with our Good News Assembly, celebrating students who exemplify being Responsible, Friendly, Engaged, and Safe last quarter. We appreciate the parents who attended. The next assembly will follow the end of the current marking period.
A reminder: there is no school on Monday, February 17, in observance of Presidents' Day.
Have a wonderful weekend.

Good evening, Ring Factory Community
We had a very active week at the school. On Tuesday and Wednesday, we began the day with doughnuts with parents. We thank the PTA for organizing this yearly event, and the parents for their participation. At the beginning of each day, students and staff had an energy booster with all the sugar. We are lucky that the weather was good enough for outdoor recess. Students were able to use up the excess energy on the new mulch in the playgrounds.
They had some left to devote to our Read-A-Thon challenge! We set a school goal of reading for 100,000 minutes. In one week, we are at the 31,000-minute mark! This number would be higher if all students had their accounts activated. If the parents do not activate their child’s account, the student cannot receive credit for the minutes they read at school and at home. Currently, we have 393 students out of 549 with active accounts. If you are at the school, please visit our Read-A-Thon performance boards to see the wonderful job our students are doing.
We are encouraging everyone to activate their student's Read-A-Thon account as soon as possible. The instructions are straightforward, making it quick and hassle-free, and it should take less than 5 minutes of your time.

I hope this message finds you well on this chilly evening! We have had a brief yet enriching week. On Wednesday, we held our 4th grade concert, showcasing the talents of our young artists. A heartfelt thanks to them for their wonderful performances and to our music teachers for their unwavering dedication. We also extend our gratitude to the parents for their continued support of our school's music program.
Yesterday, two of our 3rd grade classes enjoyed a trip to the Planetarium, sparking curiosity and wonder among our students.
Read-A-Thon Fundraiser:
From January 31 to February 28, each student will track the number of minutes they read. They will seek support from family and friends via a personal online code and can earn exciting prizes listed on our platform. We ask that students register online at home with their families. Each week, we will display photos of the top readers in the hallway. Expect spirited classroom and grade-level competitions for the most minutes read!
Our aim is for all students to be registered on the Read-A-Thon platform by January 31. Classroom teachers should also log in by this date. We will kick off the event with a school-wide "Drop Everything and Read" session, which teachers can log for their classes. It’s also “Dress Like a Word” day, so students can bring a favorite book and a stuffed animal to celebrate the start.
All funds raised will enhance our reading resources, from technology to books, online tools, reading rewards, and celebrations.
We challenge our students to read an extra 240 minutes, aiming for a schoolwide total of 100,000 minutes! We'll update our progress every Friday.
On March 7, we will celebrate our efforts with a "Read-A-Thon Disco Jump Party" in the gym.
A Word from the Nurse:
As we are in the peak of cold and flu season, please keep your child home if they are ill to help protect our school community.
Remember:
Together, we can minimize the impact of the flu season on our community.
